SSC Racing Cairngorm Training
How to Sign Up
You need an SSC Racing online account to book any Scottish Ski Club training. Visit race.scottishskiclub.org.uk and create an account as yourself (parent/guardian), then add your child(ren) in the “Your Family Members” section. You must answer the medical questionnaire to provide the coaching team with essential information to keep your child(ren) safe.
It is essential that you join the SSC Race Training WhatsApp group for the latest information – get in touch if you need to be added. Details about upcoming training will be shared in this, depending on current conditions and the forecast.
Cancellation & Refunds
All training payments are non-refundable except in cases of injury or other exceptional circumstances.
Stormbound Days
The aim of SSC Racing is to ski as much as possible in order to develop the technical aspects of ski racing. Training will go ahead on snow wherever possible in all weather conditions, as long as the lifts are running.
If Cairngorm is stormbound on the day but the lifts are operating at the Lecht, we may relocate there. Similarly, if conditions at another resort (e.g. Nevis Range, Glencoe) look significantly more favourable in the days leading up to a training weekend, the coaches may decide to move training there instead. Any alternative arrangements will be communicated in advance via the WhatsApp group.
If we are unable to ski, the program will move to Loch Insh Outdoor Centre or another alternative venue in the Spey valley. This is not a ‘make-do’ approach, but taking the opportunity to develop non-technical skills required for ski racing which cannot be developed on snow. This may include activities such as:
- Tactics – racing theory, course inspection methods, analysis of high-level (World Cup) skiing
- Physical – fitness training, agility & coordination, activities in the valley (e.g. ziplining, go-karting)
- Psychology – mental preparation, training the psychology of race days
- Equipment – ski tuning workshops, looking after your kit
In either of the above circumstances, some form of training has run.
Occasionally, upon careful assessment of the circumstances of a stormy morning, the coaches may choose to cancel training altogether. In this instance, your payment for training may roll over to another training day of your choosing, i.e. you can book a future training day free of charge (the Head Coach must process this manually).
No Snow
If we enter a period of extended poor conditions (and we mean really terrible – think only 1-2 thin and narrow runs or less open), we may cancel training ahead of time. In this instance, your payment for training may roll over to another training day of your choosing.
